Il n'est pas encore Minuit

Documentary on Compagnie XY’s production ‘Il N’est Pas Encore Minuit’. The collective of 22 acrobats presents a show somewhere between crazy acrobatics and a 1920s dance called the Lindy Hop.

With a festive atmosphere of freedom and resistance, ‘Il N’est Pas Encore Minuit…’ is a bubbling cauldron of individual wishes and desires, but in this case, it is more about the notion of the paths we take collectively than the shaping of an idea. Outside acrobatic work, a dance called the Lindy Hop was the point of convergence between individuals and generations. This dance, which grew out of 1920s Harlem and has a swing-like energy, constitutes an incredible playground which, in contrast to acrobatics, allows us to ‘let go’ and affirm our own uniqueness. And although it may not be the point of the show, its intentions are implicit: the affirmation of the collective and the listening to and understanding of the body as a joyful and poetic act of resistance. Our musical composition follows this theme with the aim of provoking movement as well as immobility; contrasting the energy of a rolling jazz made up of scraps of different things with the melancholy of the cello. The rhythmics will be in tune with the acrobatic figures and their breathing.
