An extravagant dive into the depths of the Orpheus myth
First produced 2010
Choreography José Montalvo, Dominique HervieuOrpheus, the most human of divine characters, who knew how to charm wild animals and even move inanimate beings with the notes of his lyre. Orpheus, ill-fated in love, who braved Hell to find his wife Eurydice, but could not prevent her turning round, and so lost her for ever. With this new work, the Montalvo-Hervieu duo invites us to share an extravagant dive into the depths of the Orpheus myth. These two children of Dada have been able to conquer audiences over the years by presenting choreographic and visual worlds of an exuberant richness. This reading of the Orpheus myth marks a turning in their work, inventing a new choreographic form midway between opera and musical comedy. It mixes video, hip-hop, contemporary and African dance, song and even dance on pneumatic stilts… All these emotions and surprises bring Orpheus and Eurydice to life in a multitude of incarnations. Without a shadow of a doubt, this contemporary and off-beat version of the myth will delight you.
