She Dreamt of Being Washed Away To The Coast
She Dreamt of Being Washed Away To The Coast is a contemporary interpretation of Baltic mythology. The performance recontextualizes Lithuanian folklore within the framework of the universal human experience. It explores the tension between two worlds: the material world, governed by logic, and the world shaped by imagination and faith.
The starting point of the performance is the reinterpretation of a Lithuanian legend about the impossible love between the sea goddess Jūratė and a fisherman named Kastytis. However, rather than focusing on the tragedy of love, the performance delves into the transformation of a single individual, inspired by the figure of Jūratė, who experiences solitude and an internal conflict between bodily limitations and the fluidity of imagination.
