Nuit blanche
Tango to great effect. The performances of Esteban Moreno and Claudia Codega offer new horizons to the endless succession of bravura pieces. It’s a tango that’s not just spectacular and stuck in its codes, but more human and whimsical.
The new creation Nuit Blanche by the Franco-Argentine company in residence at the Maison de la Danse brings together ten dancers and five musicians. It is presented as a tango exploration of the world of night. The piece begins in a club at the very moment when a traditional tango show comes to an end, at the very moment when the performers become men and women again, mingling with the audience and rejoining real life… After Efecto Tango in 2005 and Tango Vivo in 2006, the idea of a partly theatrical creation should enable the choreographers and their brilliant performers to keep up the challenge of a sensual and topical musical drama.
Press :
A tango of our time, whose gradual shifts towards other contemporary movements are carried out with comforting naturalness. (…) We move away from the imposed straitjacket of slicked-back hair to flirt with extra spontaneity, without disturbing the imposed elegance.
David S. Tran, Le Progrès
With Efecto Tango, the choreographers have given themselves the means to create a tango piece that is faithful to tradition, while daring to branch out into theatre and other forms of movement. (…) They succeed in giving their tango the acuity of a contemporary means of expression.
Agnès Benoist, Le Figaro
Esteban Moreno and Claudia Codega have completely renewed the genre, while remaining true to the tradition of Argentine tango. The performers combine tango and contemporary dance without falling into clichés. A perfect show.
