Pionnier de la danse moderne afro-américaine, Alvin Ailey créé à la fin des années 50 l’une des compagnies les plus importantes des Etats-Unis. Chorégraphe prolifique, il compose pas moins de 79 ballets pour l’Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
