Self&Others
The working process I want to establish for Self&Others is based around the idea of the self-portrait. But rather than limiting it to the expectations of the genre, I would like to experiment using the idea of the group, and the relationship to the group. Each participant will be asked to put together a corpus of material that will serve to flesh out a self-portrait. The elements that make up the solo form are open – participants will be free to choose any medium including dance, text, images, sounds and objects. By self-portrait, we mean an operation that is arranged according to the open modalities of a particular, contingent and non-definitive “here and now”. The elaboration of the solo can take place alone, in pairs or with the group, as the objective is to recycle material for a self-portrait with or in a group. Questions of giving, loss, sharing selection, playing, simulacra and compositional strategies are at the heart of the process.
