Rencontres
First duet Kader Attou and Andrés Marín
Second duet Carolyn Carlson and Eva Yerbabuena
While flamenco, with its codes and rites, forms a world of its own, its influence on the other arts is strong. But do the other contemporary artists also influence the world of flamenco? The duos presented in this unique show would prove that, to say the least, the desire for dialogue and exchange well and truly exists. At the origin of this evening was Eva Yerbabuena’s desire, a dream for her, to meet Carolyn Carlson. A dream come true in a duo that would be prolonged by the meeting (Rencontre) of two men: Andrés Marín and Kader Attou. Thus, the poetic intensity of Carolyn Carlson and Kader Attou engages with the burning energies of flamenco, all in restraint, tensions and flashes. In a dialogue, undoubtedly enthralling, between earthy powers and aerial forces, between narration and abstraction, the public experiences, in turn, the giddiness of flying and elevation suggested by Carolyn Carlson and Kader Attou, and the trust in support and the intense energy drawn from the ground by Eva Yerbabuena and Andrés Marín. Between mutual challenges and attentions, the dancers plunge into the other’s world, borne up and united by the living music of contemporary flamenco musicians.
