Rei Dom ou la légende des Kreuls
History of the body
“Reï Dom is a film about fluids, the humours, that which is viscous, with a preference for saliva. It talks about the body as something which has been scarred, seen as a fascinating and terrifying machine which is supposedly controlled by instinct, by reflexes. Reï Dom, which pays homage to women – to their honesty and their courage – is the work of a painter. Jean-Claude Gallotta had just finished art school when he chose dance as a means of telling the stories of the bodies which haunted him. It is striking to see to what degree his universe becomes duller in the transition from live performance to cinema. Such desperation is moving. Reï Dom tells the tragic story of the lone man, powerless, who clings on to his imaginary world in order to survive: Gallotta is a Kreul among humans, a symbol of resistance.”
