Popular Music [extrait 1]
Recorded at the Centre national de la danse 25 January 2013
First performed 2005
Choreography Yuval Pick
“Popular Music” is constructed like a puzzle. The images accumulate and dissolve into each other. The dance is born out of a kind of urgency, the urgency felt by the dancers to express their turmoil, their doubts, their helplessness. Disorder and chaos become visible in a dance which unfolds in a chiaroscuro that encourages personal digressions.
In this piece, Yuval Pick develops a non-narrative and energetic dance that responds to a strong musical composition. His works emanate a desire for harmony that never seems to fully materialise, as if hampered by some kind of restlessness. His dance invites, disturbs and surprises, because it indicates a sincere desire to express humanity and to share.
