Party
Based on Publique (choreographed by Mathilde Monnier in 2004), Party opens up a space for encounters between the intimate and the public, between the “one-performer” and the “we-audience”.
I-Fang Lin created Party working in Orléans with 18 amateur dancers over six rehearsal weekends from late November 2022 to February 2023. The question of interpretation, which was the raw material for her solo performance Ébloui (created with visual artist Jocelyn Cottencin in 2021), is tackled here as a group.
I-Fang guides her dancers through the emergence of gestures, keeping them in the creative zone between mimicry and free expression, the zone where one must both hold and let go. Dancing or simply being in the dance? Always start with feeling, so that movement can develop and take possession of the whole body.
The danced space, underpinned by the powerful music and sensual voice of PJ Harvey, becomes a place of empathy sculpted by the interference of desires and the contagion of emotions.
