Noetic Distance
Distance noétique questions the notion of live performance with a dance performance ‘mirrored’ between the two hemispheres: La Réunion and the hexagon.
At a time when physical distances have been abolished by our digital tools – and when, paradoxically, social distances are made more complicated in the physical world – our era plays with distances, with technology exerting an unprecedented influence on our relationship with others.
This project, co-produced by Hangars Numériques, is a poetic interpretation of this new relationship with the world through technology, bringing together three worlds: electronic music, visual arts and dance. This hybrid digital creation is a joint performance by Paul Herent (electronic music) and Thomas Ballèvre and Nikita Goile (choreography and dance).
The technological tools used here are many and varied, including the use of artificial intelligence in the various media involved: in the music, algorithms generate synthetic voices, or isolate acapellas from another century to blend in with synthetic compositions; in the visuals, by generating moving tableaux from the reverie of a network of artificial neurons, or by the automatic detection of the dancer’s body by a camera coupled with computer vision algorithms, thus enabling the genesis of a digital twin, able to free itself from physical constraints, and thus enabling a new kind of scenography: interactive and connected videoscenery.
