“We decided to work on the Oresteia, because in the shadow of these major works, we can talk about human beings in a private manner.
At the end of the choreographic work on the Oresteia that we carried out for the students of the CNDC l’Esquisse (National Centre for Contemporary Dance, Angers) – “L’irresponsabilité d’Apollon”, “Avant-première 96”, we pursued our foray into these imposing tragedies. The Oresteia is like a permanent echo that shrouds all the dancers: each of them will draw from an Electra, a Clytemnestra or an Orestes to perform more intensely and, without any false modesty, the things in their own lives that coincide, in a troubling way, with these themes. As such, the Oresteia is a working material that provides multiple opportunities: this mixing with Tragedy not only offers us additional knowledge but also heightens our awareness of questions without answers that the myths have always introduced, and which we ourselves will ask again”.
