Extrait chorégraphique remonté par le groupe Pop Korn (Nancy), responsable du groupe Sébastien Gérard, dans le cadre de Danse en amateur et répertoire (2013)

Choreography Julien Ficely

A choreographic extract remodelled by the group Pop Korn (Nancy), artistic coordinator Sébastien Gérard, as part of the “Danse en amateur et repertoire” programme (2013) (a programme created to assist and promote amateur dancing).

The group

Pop Korn was created by the young people themselves. The group is composed by musicians and dancers. To develop their own projects, they created a junior association. They create their own dance and music. This association has also a social goal because they develop international assistance projects.

The project

Julien Ficely places in a green square the history of a couple.  Secret garden of their emotions, their desires, their fears and  disappointments; an ambiguous space where are combined contradictions  and a loving osmosis.

“In a square materialized by a carpet of dead leaves, two bodies are  embracing, merging, rejecting and seeking each others with, as a  background, Stabat Mater by Pergolèse and chirping birds. These two  human beings are inviting us in their secret garden to share their  troubles, their emotions, their desires, but also their anxieties. A  beautiful performance for the couple, Adam and Eve in a garden smelling  like linden tree. Enough to awaken all the senses.” (Didier  Hemardinquer, author)

The choreographer

Julien is choreographing his own work since his beginnings as an interpreter. Crossed by multiple influences, his work is based on the pleasure of improvisation, before getting the desire to leave traces and capture those ephemeral moments. The creation came to him as an evidence. His pieces are shared moments in which the dancers are printing their energies. His style is a fine gesture, organical and animal, made of precision. The movements are written and invent some limits in order to better deconstruct them later. Emotions are emerging from the body, touching the beauty and complexity of human relationships. Julien Ficely studied at «École Nationale de danse» of La Rochelle and then joined the “Jeune Ballet International Rosella Hightower” from 1998 to 2000. Until 2002, he danced for Nice Opera Ballet and “Opéra National du Rhin” before joining the CCN-Ballet de Lorraine, that he left in July 2012. During this period, his body language and his vision of dance have been fed by his interpretations and choreographic encounters.
