Le Crawl de Lucien, première représentation
In 1985, the choreographer and dancer signed with this work one of his most radical progress in abstraction and unclettering. This is a captation of the first representation.
This raw capture of the first performance of Le Crawl de Lucien is a valuable supplement to the fine adaptation that Charles Picq also dedicated to the work (see the 2nd version). Although the image quality is not so good here (wide shots and insufficient stage lighting), this film better takes into account the unique relationships between solos, duos, trios and the remainder of the eleven dancers, forming a mobile space with skilful balancings. The work has the rigour and the miniature aspect of Déserts d’amour that precedes it, but the gestures are maybe both shakier and drier here. Deprived of all rhythmic or melodic support by Gilles Grand’s electroacoustic music, the phrasing of the dance is particularly polished here. In 1985, at the time of its creation, Le Crawl de Lucien and its rigorous abstraction had seemed extremely austere. Yet, the piece, dressed in breath-taking pink, does not lack humour. Also, there is no doubt that it is one of Bagouet’s major works.
