Landscape
With ‘Landscape’, Saburo Teshigawara, accompanied by the dancer Rihoko Sato, presents an encounter between his dance and the music played by the pianist Francesco Tristano, who plays Bach and John Cage, as well as his own compositions.
On a constant quest for new poetic spaces, the dancer and choreographer Saburo Teshigawara invites the young virtuoso pianist Francesco Tristano to perform Bach’s famous ‘Variations Goldberg’ (Goldberg Variations), John Cage’s ‘In A Landscape’ and some of his own compositions.
As in improvisation the master Saburo Teshigawara and his muse Rihoko Sato launch themselves into abstract yet sensual dances that resonate freely with the scores played on stage. An encounter between music and dance that is both improbable and obvious, and full of beauty. The Japanese choreographer is known for the meticulousness and the artistic perfection of his pieces, but also for their intelligence and sensitivity, which make each of them a real jewel in contemporary dance. With this collaboration, he presents an inner journey of his dance, a duet that is both simple and sophisticated.
