La Ville danse côté jardin avec José Montalvo et Dominique Hervieu

Year of production
1999

undefined

From video to dance, José Montalvo choreographs the city. Wacky, lively characters pass through his works, in the image of the urban, motley and mixed populations that form part of his sources of inspiration and with whom he works. This film evokes his work behind the scenes, shows dance extracts, questions his interpreters, and presents Dominique Hervieu, his creative accomplice.

Now a master in the art of Dada collage and surrealistic entertainment, the former director of the Centre Chorégraphique National de Créteil and currently dance director at the Théâtre National de Chaillot, proposes on stage a playful world, bathed in bright, colourful lights. On a large screen at the back of the stage, images also dance and work on reflections, the magic of illusion. These visual and danced combinations have guaranteed the success of his shows, while these choreographic tales are a melting pot of cultures where all dance styles good-naturedly exist side by side. José Montalvo’s imagination develops to fit in with his interpreters, their morphology and their specificity, in a series of gags resembling those of comic strips, to varied musics, from classical to hip hop.
