Katlehong Cabaret
Tap, steps, pantsula, aussi bien que chants traditionnels se mêlent ici sur scène dans une volonté de dire autrement l’Afrique, c’est-à-dire sans aller puiser dans les stéréotypes dont nous, occidentaux, avons l’habitude.
Via Katlehong are today part of the international choreographic landscape, multiplying tours and success. Via Katlehong is by size, the second township of South Africa. Bullets fly low, the crime is ordinary. But on stage, these young artists do not breathe a word. It is the glory of their traditions that they sing and dance, while bringing their own inventiveness to develop a contemporary language. Dances and songs follow one another, drumming, jumping from one sketch to another, convivial, varied. The magazine is adorned with incredible demonstrations of gumboots (dance in rubber boots born in the mines), tap (movement and hits on the ground), hip hop, pantsula, a cappella songs, percussions… Each gives the best, in a freedom and total pleasure.
