Fwoodmasca
“No solo had ever been written for Catherine Legrand, a dancer who was a key figure in Dominique Bagouet’s work for 10 years. No solo and I was surprised and impatient. We began the work by reading Francesca Woodman’s photos, then we moved away from them, followed other paths, while keeping the memory of the poetic theatricality contained in these photos. Between the staging of the appearance – that is to say, the disappearance and persistence of images, trails, echoes, imprints – and the imaginary nature – stones, river, flower, blade of grass, tree – Catherine Legrand has become a landscape. The interpreter weighs with all her weight on the stage, she stands there, between this heaviness and this grace. She is there, that’s enough. It should be enough. But we ask for more, so we add: Fwoodmasca is a piece that asks to let go, to let yourself go, it doesn’t come looking for you, it opens the space where you can fall. Fwoodmasca is a piece conceived for the spectator on the side, who looks at it from the side, the one who arrives late, who has not booked but reserves himself. And then there is the voice of Catherine Legrand, a woman of rare words. The voice, just, she has it. The words, she has them, in reserve. The texts are hers. She says them, she sings them, she breathes them.
