F_AI_LLE
The Dance and AI project examines the fallibility of AI when it confronts and dialogues with the body, through an interactive comparison of standard and unusual movements.
The project received writing support from the CNC (Écritures Numériques Auteurs Jeu Vidéo & Création Immersive).
F_AI_LLE is a performance/installation in which a spectator’s movements are captured and interpreted by an AI.
The more the AI recognises an everyday, standardised movement, the closer the representation of the body is to the human figure and the more identifiable it becomes.
A body for display.
Conversely, the more the movements stand out from the usual and deviate from the ordinary, the more complex the representation of the body becomes and invites the spectator to explore letting go.
A body to explore.
Each presentation begins with a performance in its own right.
The dance in this project is based on in-depth research into everyday gestures and attitudes observed in people waiting and watching.
More than a simple interaction, the aim is to generate a dialogue with the AI, as it is not possible to predict exactly how it will interpret the training to which it is subjected. Beyond that, the aim is to understand how an AI works through the body and its movements.
An improbable dialogue via the dancing body is established with an AI, a digital creature trained with a database made up of a very large number of recordings of short videos danced by a wide audience (around 5000).
The ‘body’ of this creature is everywhere in the installation. It expresses itself through images, music and projected words.
The image is transformed by the unusual, misaligned movements… An invitation to dance in a different way.
The words are both an interpretation of what the machine captures and an invitation to move in the direction it proposes.
