En quête de danse

Laura de Nercy and Bruno Dizien, founders of Roc in Lichen company, are committed to sensitize tomorrow’s spectators to contemporary dance : children and teenagers from kindergarten to middle school.

Public awareness of contemporary dance has varied markedly: today, public rehearsals and courses are of interest to spectators wishing to discover its mysteries. Laura de Nercy and Bruno Dizien, founders of the Roc in Lichen company, set their mind to building the awareness of tomorrow’s spectators: children and teenagers, from kindergarten to secondary school.

Before starting a year’s work with 13/14 year-old students from Perreux, in a kindergarten in Fontenay, and for two years, in a high school in Rosny-sous-Bois, with 15/16 year-old students, they began by showing the emblematic work of their choreographic approach, Le Creux poplité, focused on verticality; what was called, rather too quickly, “rockclimbing-dance”. Marion Lary’s film follows the work sessions through to the rehearsals of the show given by the Rosny high school students at the Grand Théâtre du Centre des Bords de Marne and lets the apprentice dancers speak. One girl says: “I don’t recognise myself, I let myself go…” while another adds: “If I had the choice, I’d chuck it all in and only dance”. Watch this space!
