El Trilogy marks my return to short choreographic forms, to collaborations with the plastic arts and music. I wanted to capture the spirit of jazz: interaction, flexibility, spontaneity, with the aim of taking the dancers to such a level that they could improvise together on the basis of movement suggested by one of them. In the end it was necessary to develop a ‘system’ which allowed the dancers and musicians to measure the limits of their respective disciplines in order to define the improvisation space jointly.”
