Dix anges, portraits
These miniatures, extracted from the show and rewritten for the image, respect the time stretched to the original piece composed as twilight.
Choreography: Dominique Bagouet
“Le Saut de l’ange” is a show first designed for the stage. I’m not interested in its transposition to fim, even if it’s adapted, but the cinematic image seemed perfect for focusing more sharply and even sublimating, if possible, an important dimension of the play.
My close relationship with the painter Christian Boltanski made me appreciate, among other things, the almost brutal concept of stock-taking.
I took the liberty of borrowing that technique from him to tackle the ten portraits of the individuals contained in the “Saut de l’ange” choreography.

On a Sunday afternoon, nonchalant girls and boys, in a village square, alltogether like golden bread. Catherine, a buttercup fairy in tutu, stretches out in an arabesque while Christian, the slender matador, rolls his fingers. Who is the sinous sneak thief over there? It’s Sarah. And here are Sonia, Jean-Pierre, Claire and Bernard, Orazio, Dominique, Michèle and, in the background, in the shade, there is Dominique… Bagouet. He, a master of his trade, chisels ethereal miniatures subtly articulated. Delicate movements of the hands, voluble feet, cheeky routes… so moves Dominique Bagouet. The ‘ten angels’ pass and play riddles with you, tinselled with light bulbs by Christian Boltanski, the visual artist, and skilfully filmed by Charles Picq. Follow along the dotted line.
