d'après une histoire vraie
Accompanied by eight dancers and two musicians, Christian Rizzo seeks a space where movement and its relationship with music eschew the categories of “folk” and “contemporary”.
Stage left, two drummers play live on a platform. Eight men meet, get together and take a few steps together, which gradually evolve into a tribal dance with roots in the traditional dances of the Mediterranean Basin.
A few years ago in Istanbul, Christian Rizzo watched a traditional dance performed solely by men. The choreographer was suddenly overcome with a profound emotion. The memory of that scene, fixed in his mind, has since evolved and has now re-emerged as the point of departure for the show ‘D’Après une Histoire Vraie’. With eight dancers and two musicians playing live, Christian Rizzo creates a powerful hybrid dance that combines folkloric practices and contemporary dance. The two drums, beating on the margins of tribal rhythms and psychedelic rock, maintain a relationship between dialogue and battle. The dancers form a human chain, hands on shoulders, creating tighter and tighter circles.
