Ce que le jour doit à la nuit is the story of an ideal pretext, that of a choreographer, Hervé Koubi, who has chosen dance to connect to his origins; Algerian origins, discovered late and that naturally evoke the famous novel by Yasmina Khadra (What the day owes the night), whose title the piece shares.
Onstage, twelve Algerian and Burkinabe dancers are therefore tasked with evoking this unknown past, between hip hop, street dance and contemporary dance. Gradually, as their long white skirts criss-cross and intermingle, unveiling the beauty of their bodies in movement, the story of Hervé Koubi is mapped out.
In fact, Ce que le jour doit à la nuit attempts with panache to establish a common geography: that of the great Mediterranean Basin.
