Calore
Manifeste poétique pour non danseurs, voyage visionnaire post-punk, régression sans illusion vers une adulescence infinie, cette pièce marque par sa vigueur et sa composition rythmique.
Direction, choreography : Enzo Cosimi – 1982/2012
Calore (Heat), is the title of Enzo Cosimi’s first choreographic work, which made its debut in Rome’s Villa Borghese, at the Amphitheatre of the Parco dei Daini, in September 1982, with his ensemble Gruppo Occhèsc. Though conceived as a piece for artistic interpreters who are non-dancers, it is nevertheless marked by a vigorous energy and very compact rhythms in which a dance composition is entirely recognisable. In an original brief descriptive sketch of the show, Cosimi wrote: reality is devasted by frozen atmospheres, here we are trying to get the scent of a new air, a rising wind whose energy, in returning to nothing without any illusions, nevertheless has the qualities of deep serenity, of heat, of relative calm. The show is a visionary voyage in which the artistic interpreter is asked to embark on a sort of regression, to trace out the pattern of an endless infancy and adolescence. Giuseppe Bartolucci, the unforgettable theoretician of the new theatre movement, wrote about the show as follows: here gymnastics and dance step forward and are contaminated, sweat is accepted as a passage, physicality is permeated by continuous and endless ignitions, on principle the fall-back of rest and interval is not contemplated. This project of recuperating the repertoire of contemporary Italian choreography is indeed welcome, in the hope that younger generations of authors and audiences may now have the opportunity to take a new look at our historical choreographic memory.
