With looks that meet, steady or subdued rhythms, teeming bodies here and there, ‘Boyakodah’ (which means happiness in Guéré, a language from the west of Ivory Coast) is a true hymn to life. Georges Momboye explores all its facets. In addition to the almost carnal light bathing the moving bodies, he supplements the talents of the performers with two objects: a pestle and mortar, complementary sexual symbols, representing procreation, strength and harmony.
The performance seeks out the point of balance between body and soul, between rhythm and silence, to evoke the ultimate and absolute aspiration of mankind to happiness and pleasure.
