The group

Made up of 7 adult amateur dancers of various ages and backgrounds – a mid-wife, a physiotherapist, a jurist… – this troupe was formed in 2016 under the guidance of dance teacher, Sabine Coyral. Its members have a shared taste for experimentation, melding dance with speech and vocal work. While this is their first collaboration within the programme, they often perform original pieces at music festivals and events at multimedia libraries. After seeing Ambra Senatore’s work Passo, the troupe was keen to explore her elliptic choreography and imaginative style.

The project

Created in 2014 by Ambra Senatore for the Avignon Festival, Aringa Rossa was named after the English expression “red herring”, meaning false lead. A mix of dance and theatre, the absurd humour of this piece requires the dancers to be profoundly in tune with one another. It was easily adapted to 7 dancers, and includes sequences of improvisation that appealed to the group. Ambra Senatore’s discontinuous choreography, where the dancers constantly have to escape their own traps, was a fun challenge for the group. The choreographer herself, along with dancers Elisa Ferrari and Vincent Blanc, teamed up with the troupe for this adventure.
