James Thierrée
Born in Lausanne in 1974, James Thierrée made his stage debut at the age of four in his parents’ circus, Le Cirque Imaginaire. From 1978 to 1994, he toured with Le Cirque Imaginaire, then its successor, Cirque Invisible, and Cirque Bonjour.
He trained at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique in Paris. In 1998, he founded his own company, La Compagnie du Hanneton, whose first show, La symphonie du Hanneton, which he acted in and directed, won three Molières in 2006, among many other awards. Other productions followed: La Veillée des Abysses (2003); Au revoir parapluie, which won a Molière in 2007, Raoul (2009) and Tabac Rouge (2013), which won a Molière in 2014, La Grenouille avait raison in 2016; Frôlons in 2018) and Mo’s in 2021.
He has worked with directors Peter Greenaway (on the film Les livres de Prospero, in which he plays Ariel), Robert Wilson, Carlos Santos, Beno Besson, Coline Serreau, Agniezka Holland, Jacques Baratier, Tony Gatlif, Claude Miller, Jacques Doillon and Roschdy Zem,
among others.
