Artistic direction:Makau Foster Delcuvellerie

Creation: 1999

The Tamariki Poerani Dance Company was initiated by its choreographer Makau Foster Delcuvellerie for the 1999 Heiva i Tahiti dance competition.

Tamariki Poerani means “the children of Hao” an atoll of the Tuamotu archipelago were Makau was born. Traditional Ori Tahiti dance company, Tamariki Poerani is proud of its Paumotu influences, showcasing, for instance, some traditional forms of dancing of that particular group of islands like the “kapa” and the “haka” (from which the famous maori haka comes from) which are not danced in Tahiti.

Since 1999 the company has produced various shows: Munanui (1999), Merehenua (2001), Te ariki Tuohea (2003), Mokorea (2004) and “Mono’i” (2009). The company has won various prizes both in Tahiti and internationally. The Tamariki Poerani dance company has been travelling to a few places including Japan, China, USA, Mexico and Hawai’i for different festivals and traditional dance competitions.
