Malek Sebai began dancing in 1978 for the ballet of the National Opera in Paris. She pursued her training at the Higher National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris until 1984 and then joined the Rosella Hightower Dance School (Cannes, France). She went on to join the Stanislavski Theatre (Moscow, 1987), the Ater Balletto (Italy, 1989), the Muenchener Staats Oper (Munich, 1990), the Ballet du Nord (France, 1993), the Elisa Monte Dance Company (New York, 1994-1998).

In 1998, she settled permanently in Tunisia and dedicated herself to teaching, whilst continuing to participate in theatrical and choreographic creations in collaboration with Tunisian artists. She embarked on choreographic research work and created several pieces of work: “Le Festin de la Tortue” (October 2000) with the Canadian choreographer Luc Dunberry (Shaubuhne Berlin), B-Ticino, in 2004, as part of the DAMA (Dancing in the Arabic Mediterranean), with the Tunisian visual artist Patricia Triki, “Zangana”, in March 2006, a choreographic installation in collaboration with Sondos Belhassen based on the text by Haifa Zangana “Derrière la mémoire”, as part of the “Femmes guerre et création” programme (El Teatro).

In July 2006, along with Patricia Triki and Sondos Belhassen, she created “B-Ticino part II” for the 42nd edition of the International Festival of Carthage. In November 2007, she wrote “Manel wu Saoussen”, a choreographic project that she created for the Dream City Festival with Sondos Belhassen and Patricia Triki.

In 2010, she presented “Et tout à coup un inconnu vous offre des fleurs” in Darja for the Morocco Miniatures Project. In October 2010, at the Dream City Festival, she related the Dar Joued with “Prison des délits du cœur”. A text, co-written with the cooperation of Sondos Belhassen and Patricia Triki, the photographic artist, which, through women’s voices, revives the stories of love, of disenchantment, of revolt and of disobedience in relation to the patriarchal law, its arranged marriages and its ambient polygamy.

She is working in 2011 on “Je te le dirai par écrit” along with the choreographer, Caroline Bo.
