Rone
Erwan Castex, better known as Rone, is a key player on the French electro scene. Born in Boulogne-Billancourt in 1980, the self-taught musician cut his teeth at the Sorbonne Nouvelle.
Following the release of his first EP, Bora, he was quickly spotted by French DJ and producer Agoria, who included him on one of his compilations.
Named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2017, he was awarded the SACEM Grand Prix for electronic music and the César for best original music for La Nuit venue in 2020 and 2021 respectively. In 2022, he was again nominated for a César for Best Original Score for the film Les Olympiades.
He co-created the musical and choreographic piece ROOM WITH A VIEW with (LA)HORDE in 2020 at the invitation of the Théâtre du Châtelet.
‘With ROOM WITH A VIEW, we wanted to be like observers of the world through our arts (…) There’s a responsibility as an artist, an audience follows me, listens to me. It’s important to try and get a message across.
Although the show was a great success, health restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic meant that the last two performances, in March 2020, could not take place. This did not prevent Rone from releasing Room With A View, his fifth studio album, in April of the same year. 2021 saw the release of Rone & Friends, an album featuring contributions from Jehnny Beth, Yael Naim and Camélia Jordana.
