Benjamin Millepied
French dancer, choreographer and director Benjamin Millepied spent most of his career as a dancer with the New York City Ballet from 1995 to 2011, where he was promoted to principal dancer in 2001. In 2010, he choreographed and appeared in the Oscar-winning film Black Swan, before founding the L.A. Dance Project in 2012. In 2014, Benjamin Millepied was appointed Director of Dance at the Opéra de Paris, where he profoundly renewed the repertoire by calling on great contemporary choreographers such as William Forsythe and Crystal Pite.
Today, several of his ballets are included in the repertoires of leading international companies such as New York City Ballet, Opéra de Paris, Mariinsky Ballet and Opéra de Lyon. Throughout his career, Benjamin Millepied has collaborated with a wide range of artists from the worlds of music, visual arts and design. While he already has several short films to his credit, in 2021 he will shoot his first feature-length musical, inspired by Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen.
