Kadir Memis

The choreographer and dancer Kadir “Amigo” Memiş, born in Bilecik, Turkey, came to Berlin at age 10. Inspired by hip hop culture from the 1980s, he learned to dance autodidactically. In 1993, Amigo founded the b-boy crew Flying Steps with his friend. Together with Takao Baba, he founded the communication platform Dance-Unity, which offers a worldwide exchange for dancers. He also started Funkin’ Stylez, one of the largest international hip hop battles in Germany, which takes place regularly at the HAU.

His projects are a starting point and an enhancement of transcultural and artistically hybrid perspectives, sometimes even of mystical fascination, whom he wants to encounter in space and movement.
