Sun-A Lee
Sun-A Lee began practising and studying dance in 1998. In 2003 she received her diploma in choreography at Han-Sung University in Seoul, before graduating from the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul.
The Korean artist Sun-A Lee received attention in Europe in 2007 following her solo ‘Performing Dream’, which received the French Embassy prize at the Yokohama Dance Collection competition at the beginning of the year. She then began a six-month residency in France, followed by the Jury Prize and the Audience Prize at the Spanish festival Masdanza, where she was once again named laureate in 2011 with ‘Waves’. Immediately following this, she began a creative residency for ‘Touch!’, which was shown in 2012.
She bases her research on micro-movement, which highlights the body’s tiniest movements. Her pieces have been shown in some fifteen countries in Europe and Asia.
She also collaborates with other choreographers, in particular as a soloist in ‘Light Bird’, Luc Petton’s 2015 creation, whose world premiere was shown at the Théâtre National in Chaillot in May 2015. Her solo ‘Waves’ (2010) was also passed on to Josette Baïz’s Compagnie Grenade, where it was included in the 2014 repertoire. This piece was a key part of the “Welcome” programme, which toured France at locations such as the Maison de la Danse in Lyon and the Pavillon Noir (Aix-en-Provence/Ballet Preljocaj).
In June-July 2015 she was invited to give a masterclass on micro-movement as part of the international “Camping” programme at the Centre National de la Danse, which brought together the most creative dance schools, including P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), the London Contemporary Dance School and Berlin’s HZT.
