Marc Lainé
Marc Lainé was born in 1976.
He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in 2000. He has since worked regularly for theatre and opera as set designer and assistant director. He has worked, notably, with Richard Brunel on Albert Herring for the Opéra Comique, Elixir d’Amour (Elixir of Love) for the Opera of Lille and Kaiser Von Atlantis for the Opera of Lyon. He has also worked with Jacques Lassalle, Arnaud Meunier, Olivier Balazuc, Bruno Geslin, Pierre Maillet, Thierry Bedard, Christophe Perton, Frédérique Sonntag, Madeleine Louarn and Jean-François Auguste, etc.
Since 2008, he directs his own creations.
He has created two works with the British author Mike Kenny: La Nuit électrique (Electric Darkness), nominated for a Molière Award in 2009 (best children’s play category) and Un Rêve féroce (A Fierce Dream), performed in December 2009 at the Théâtre du Rond Point in Paris.
In 2010, he began a cycle on the great figures of popular culture: Norman Bates est-il ?, a Pirandellian variation of the cult figure of the film Psycho created for the Etrange Cargo Festival at the Ménagerie de Verre; Break Your Leg !, project based on the true story of two American ice skaters, Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding and reproduced at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in January 2012; Just For One Day !, which invited a group of amateurs, young and old alike, who had never performed before, to get on stage and to act the roles of super heroes from their imagination; this was created at the CDDB – Théâtre de Lorient.
Memories From The Missing Room, created in 2012, was inspired by the album The Missing Room by the folk-rock band Moriarty, and included the band performing live on stage. The show was reproduced at the Théâtre de la Bastille in autumn 2012.
In October 2013, for the Marseille Provence 2013 event, he showcased an installation inspired by “living libraries”, where different individuals recounted their life stories. This installation was set up as a micro circular architectural space that incorporated twelve small rooms installed in the hall of the Théâtre de la Criée, where these individuals proposed twenty-minute interviews to the public.
In March 2014, Marc Lainé wrote and directed Spleenorama, a fantasy-filled, musical play inspired by rock mythology, at the CDDB – Théâtre de Lorient. The music was composed and performed by the author-composer, Bertrand Belin. This show toured throughout France, in particular at the Théâtre de la Bastille in Paris where it was performed twenty-two times during the autumn of 2014.
In March 2015, he created Vanishing Point (les deux voyages de Suzanne W.) at the Théâtre National de Chaillot, for a series of eighteen performances before moving on to the Espace Go in Montreal for a month of shows.
In September 2015, he created the Égarés, a travelling show, at the CDN de Haute-Normandie (National Centre for Dramatic Art of Upper Normandy), which reproduced the road-trip theme.
Alongside his theatrical activity, Marc Lainé co-wrote and directed Enjoy The Silence, a series for the Ferme du Buisson site, with Jean-François Auguste. This series won the Reflet d’Or Prize for the best series for the web, in the Geneva International Film Festival Tous Écrans 2009.
Since 2009, Marc Lainé has been Associate Director at the CDDB – Théâtre de Lorient and Associate Artist at the CDN de Haute-Normandie since 2014.
