Pauline L. Boulba is a performer, writer and dance researcher. Her work focuses on the analysis of dance works, queer & feminist practices and intimate & collective archives. Her thesis was published in 2023 by Presses Universitaires de Vincennes under the title CritiQueer la danse. Réceptions performées et critiques affectées. She has created several pieces since 2015, including the cycle La langue brisée; As Buffard As Possible; Ôno Sensation. Since 2020, she has been working on a protean project based around Jill Johnston (1929-2010), an American critic, performer and radical lesbian. JJ is the name of this vast investigation, which will take the form of a performance, a book (published by Brook) and a film created between 2022 and 2024. As the winner of an Hors les Murs residency at the Institut Français, she travelled to New York and met people close to Jill Johnston in the spring of 2022. Alongside Aminata Labor, she brought this work to a close with the exhibition Jill ou Face at the Centre d’Art Les Capucins in Embrun in the summer of 2024. In December 2022, she joined the IFELD training course in Lyon to become a Feldenkrais practitioner. She regularly gives talks in art schools and dance training courses. Her work has been presented at the Centre national de la danse, the Festival Salmon in Barcelona, the Centre Pompidou and the Théâtre de l’Usine in Geneva, among others.
