Bernar Hébert
Bernar Hébert is an accomplished director/producer, well respected in the filmmaking industry. In Montreal, he is known as the go-to filmmaker for any project involving arts. For the last 30 years, through his films and television projects, he has explored almost all artistic mediums, from dance to music or contemporary art. Hébert has managed to create a vast range of innovative creations and documentaries.
In 1991, he became an International EMMY award-winning director with Pictures at an Exhibition, a dance/musical film where he succeeded in creating a singular visual universe by combining talents from different artistic disciplines (conductor Charles Édouard Dutoit, dance group MOMIX, and Montreal’s Symphonic Orchestra).
Arts and culture have often been his main inspiration. Hébert was behind The Art of Nude Modeling. This triptych miniseries focused on nude modeling while following the artistic collaboration of the creators who work with them. In 2009 he directed and produced The Body as an Offering. Following the work of international image makers, this documentary is an exploration of different depictions of the human body, far from the standards of beauty conveyed by society. Throughout the film, the audience was able to witness the fascinating creative process of contemporary photographers.
Les Contemporains is Hébert’s most recent accomplishment. This series marks the 50th anniversary of the Musée d’art contemporain of Montréal: a seven-episode documentary series broadcasted on ICI ARTV, in the fall of 2014. It follows six emerging artists at work during innovative masterclasses at the Arsenal in Montreal.
