Julie Guibert
Born in 1974, Julie Guibert spent seven years at Madame Petrova’s public school in Lyon and began her career in 1991 with the Maryse Delente company in Vaulx-en-Velin.
In 1995, she joined the Ballet du Nord in Roubaix, which Maryse Delente had just taken over as director.
From 1998 to 2003, she danced with the Cullberg Ballet in Stockholm, directed by Mats Ek, performing works from the repertoire including Giselle, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.
From 2003 to 2005, she danced for the Lyon Opera Ballet, working with William Forsythe, Christian Rizzo, Trisha Brown and Maguy Marin.
In 2005 and 2006, she performed Push et Transmission by the Russell Maliphant Company in London, Nouveau Monde by Yves-Noël Genod created for the Parc départemental de Chamarande, and Les Rares Différences by Marie-Agnès Gillot in Suresnes.
As part of the Montpellier Danse festival in 2007, Christian Rizzo created a solo for her entitled b.c, janvier 1545, fontainebleau…
The same year, invited to perform in the ‘Sujet à Vif’ at the Avignon Festival, she presented a solo entitled Devant l’arrière-pays, written for her by Stijn Celis.
In 2009, she took part in the creation of Ciao Bella, a piece for five dancers presented by Herman Diephuis at the Montpellier Danse festival, and worked with Richard Siegal on Glossopoïea, a piece for three dancers created in collaboration with Ircam and presented in December 2009 at the Centre Pompidou as part of the Festival d’Automne.
In 2011, Herman Diephuis created a solo for her entitled Exécutions, and she was reunited with Christian Rizzo for the creation le bénéfice du doute (2012). In May 2014, as part of the Rencontres chorégraphiques de Seine-Saint-Denis, Mélanie Perrier created a solo for her entitled Nos charmes n’auront pas suffi.
For the 2015 Avignon Festival, she danced Jamais Assez, a piece by Fabrice Lambert. In November of the same year, she performed – with Kerem Gelebek – ad noctum, a creation by Christian Rizzo for the Théâtre de la cité universitaire in Nantes. For the Montpellier Danse 2016 festival, she danced in Christian Rizzo’s syndrome ian.
In October 2016, she danced at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées for the Nuit blanche in Tu es, a piece by Marie-Agnès Gillot.
In April 2018, she joined Christian Rizzo in Taïchung (Taiwan) for the creation of d’après nature (épisode 2).
In May 2018, with Mélanie Perrier, she began work on Quand j’ai vu mon ombre vaciller, which will premiere in February 2019 at the CCN d’Orléans.
→ Julie Guibert has taken over as director of the Lyon Opera Ballet from 2020 to 2023.
