Julien Guérin
Julien Guérin is a French choreographer and dancer renowned for his significant contributions to the world of dance.
Training and career as a dancer
A native of La Rochelle, Julien Guérin began his training at the École Nationale de Musique et de Danse in his home town, before continuing at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. After obtaining his state diploma as a classical dance teacher in 2005, he embarked on an international career as a dancer. He has performed with prestigious companies such as the English National Ballet, the Ballet de l’Opéra National de Bordeaux and the Scottish Ballet, and in 2007 joined Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, where he will remain until 2019.
Transition to choreography
Alongside his career as a performer, Julien Guérin developed a passion for choreography. His first creations, such as ‘Theorem68’ and ‘Verwirrung der Gefühle’, were created in collaboration with the École Supérieure des Arts Plastiques de Monaco. His talent was quickly recognised, leading to invitations to create for renowned institutions, including the New York Choreographic Institute, where he presented ‘Beaudelairean Souls’ in 2014.

– Dear Soaring Thoughts’ for the Czech National Ballet.
– La Princesse de Clèves’ for the Ballet de l’Opéra-Théâtre de l’Eurométropole de Metz, a first dance adaptation of the famous novel by Madame de La Fayette.
– Boléro for the Arles Youth Ballet Company.
He has also collaborated with renowned educational institutions such as the Beijing Dance Academy, the School of American Ballet and the Princess Grace Academy, as well as the Paris and Lyon Conservatoires, contributing to the training of the new generation of dancers.
Awards and recognition
Julien Guérin’s work has been recognised by a number of awards. In 2013, he was nominated for the Rolex Mentor Protégé Arts Initiative in the dance category. In 2014, he was a laureate of the New York Choreographic Institute, affiliated with the New York City Ballet. In 2018, he received the Prix du Public and the Fondation de la Danse at the Concours Jeunes Chorégraphes de l’Opéra National de Bordeaux for his piece ‘Les Labilités Amoureuses’.
Plural commitments
Julien Guérin continues to be involved in choreographic creation and dance teaching. In March 2023 and May-June-October 2024, he gave daily classical dance classes at the Centre National de la Danse in Pantin, sharing his expertise with professional dancers and advanced students.
His career illustrates a constant quest for innovation and transmission in the art of dance, making him an influential and respected figure in today’s choreographic milieu.
