Festival de danse de Cannes
17 companies, with new creations and premieres in France or region, are invited to this new edition from the 8th to the 17th of December 2017 managed by Brigitte Lefèvre!
After the maritime reverie, which inspired the last edition with its movement of infinite flow, this year Brigitte Lefèvre wanted the Festival de Danse de Cannes to be in line with crossing cultures to make us travel throughout time and space, revealing dance in its diversity.
The Festival brings together the lively forces which are part of the vitality of choreographic art, by gathering all its components, from prestigious troupes to young ballets, from great schools to the most innovative companies. You will discover: major plays such as Carmina Burana in its monumental version with 250 artists on stage or Don Quichotte interpreted by the National Ballet of Uruguay, pieces from masters such as Roland Petit or Merce Cunningham, or creation of choreographers from the contemporary stage (Damien Jalet, Thomas Lebrun…). This edition honors women, especially those Brigitte Lefèvre accompanied such as Eleonora Abbagnato, or Robyn Orlin, but also Alessandra Ferri, as well as the break grounders Maud Le Pladec, Anne Nguyen and Jann Gallois.
Some emerging companies from the European choreographic stage will be in Cannes thanks to the partnership with the Plateforme Studiotrade and the emphasis is on youth, with the venue of the Cannes Jeune Ballet and the CNDC School of Angers, because the Festival de Danse de Cannes is also the shelter, the cocoon, which enables them to refine their art before flying towards new horizons.
Beyond the work presented by the 17 invited companies, the Festival still develops meetings, debates, times for reflexion, and discussion around a symposium. Masterclasses and workshops are fundamental as they integrate mediation actions toward all publics. This is how the participative closing ball, the Looping Pop Ball lead by the choreographer Anne Nguyen invites everybody, amateurs or neophyte, to enter the dance.
