Born in 1977 in Bana, Cameroon, Eric Delphin Kwégoué is a Cameroonian actor, performer, director and playwright. Drawn to writing and poetry, in 2000 he began a two-year theatrical training course at the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture in Doula. He trained with Cameroonian director and actor André Bang, Congolese director and playwright Mwambayi Kalengayi, French director Catherine Boskovitch and Italian director and playwright Carlo Boso, among others. He soon began directing. He staged Orphée d’Afrique, by Cameroonian WereWere-Liking, L‘Egypte éventré, by Beninese Hermas Gbaguidi, and L’Amour coupable des anges déchus by Cameroonian Parfait Sipowa. A performer for a number of directors (Benoit Vitse, Guillaume Ekoumé, etc.), he plays on African and European stages.

At the same time, he has been creating performances : Totem de ville (Salon Urbain de Douala, 2007), Le Taudis des corps (Doual’art Centre d’Art Contemporain de Douala, 2010), La République des poches (Plume Plurale international poetry festival, Yaoundé, 2012), Du riz dans ma demeure (Rencontre d’Art Visuel de Yaoundé, 2014), Golgotha (Festival international de théâtre du Gabon, 2015), L’Homme lumière (Institut Français de Douala, 2017). Premiered in 2019 at the Cadaujac Festival, L’Afrique n’ira plus au Vatican was performed in 2023 at the Festival international africain des performances, in Bordeaux, as well as in Italy, the Czech Republic, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Benin.

In 2008, Eric Delphin Kwégoué published his first play, L’Ombre de mon propre vampire (Editions Ifrikiya), which was nominated for the Grand Prix Afrique du Théâtre Francophone in the Best Play category. The author of some twenty plays performed in France and across Africa, he has won several awards (Igonshua (Editions Lansman, 2017), Prix des Inédits d’Afrique et d’Outremer, Taxiwoman, (Editions Lansman, 2020), Prix Esther de Littérature Théâtrale, Prix Jacques Scherer 2021). In 2023, he was awarded the Prix Théâtre RFI for his play A Coeur ouvert.

A key player in Cameroon’s cultural and artistic life, he directs the Koz’art company, based in Douala.
