Sara C. F. De Gouveia
Born in Lisbon, Sara Gouveia is an award winning filmmaker and photographer. Her documentary “Mama Goema: The Cape Town Beat in Five Movements” won the audience award for Best Feature Length Documentary Film at the Tri Continental Film Festival 2011 and screened at festivals worldwide. Sara’s short dance film “Scarlet Days” won the Jury Award for Best Film at the 5thInShadow Festival 2013 and her spec ad for Axe “Modern Man”won Second place in the Mofilm Global Axe Competition 2015.
Sara has worked as a writer, director and cinematographer in commercials, online campaigns and short documentaries for various clients and has created a number of music videos for South African artists. More recently Sara directed the film “Hunted for their Body Parts” for Amnesty International, their second most successful campaign of 2016 so far.She also directed the film “NGIYAPHILA: Spirituality and Sexuality” for Steps for the Future, which is being launched at the 2016 AIDS conference in Durban. Sara is currently in production with the feature documentary “The Sound of Masks” in Mozambique. She runs her own company, Lionfish Productions in Cape Town.
