Mercedes Dassy is a Brussels-based dancer, performer, choreographer, and singer.

After completing her training at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (S.E.A.D.) in Austria, she worked as a performer with choreographers such as Lisbeth Gruwez and Leslie Mannès, among others.

In 2018, she created her first solo piece, i – c l i t, which marked the beginning of a prolific and radical choreographic project focused on the intersection between the intimate and the political. That same year, she was awarded the Jo Dekmine Prize by the Théâtre des Doms, recognizing emerging artists and promising new works. Building on the foundations of that piece, she followed up with a second solo, B4 summer, in which she showcased a magnetic stage presence—at times calm and hypnotic, at others raw and frenzied. She received the jury prize in the solo/duo category at the Podium dance competition for this work.

In 2021, she created the solo Deepstaria bienvenue, a commission from the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon, developed between two COVID-19 lockdowns.

In 2022, she moved away from the solo format to create RUUPTUUR, a quartet for four dancers. This new piece explores the power of the collective through a futuristic group choreography, incorporating centaur-like imagery and articulated costuming.

After five years of intense and groundbreaking production, Mercedes Dassy embarked on a new cycle of artistic research. Drawn to the iconic figure of the singer, she turned her attention to voice and songwriting, working from her own texts and music.

This new chapter culminates in Spongebabe in L.A. (4 love & anxiety), a solo premiering in autumn 2024. She has been an associate artist at Charleroi danse since the 2023–24 season.
