Raphaël Cottin began dancing in 1987, then studied at the Paris Conservatory of Music and Dance, in classical dance, then in contemporary dance. Since 2008, he has been dancing in France and around the world in the company of Thomas Lebrun, installed since January 2012 at the Center chorégraphique national de Tours. Choreographer, researcher and “notateur” of the movement (cinétographie Laban), he connects his different skills and develops his projects within his company, La Poétique des Signes

In 2015 and 2016, he created “Signatures”, co-written with Noëlle Simonet for the company Labkine (a duo that questions the idea of choreographic signature through the work of 3 great choreographers: Doris Humphrey, Merce Cunningham and Lucinda Childs),  “Les 7 Premiers Jours”, a quartet on the choreographic creation, with the dancer Lola Keraly, the flautist Cédric Jullion and the actor Sophie Lenoir, and a new version of Buffet à Vif, co-written with Pierre Meunier and Marguerite Bordas, for its return to the Théâtre de la Bastille for 13 performances.

In 2016-2017, two productions again demonstrated his musical interests: as choreographer for “The Threepenny Opera” by Brecht/Weill, directed by Jean Lacornerie for La Clef des Chants at the Scène Nationale in Calais, and as assistant director for “Les Fêtes d’Hébé” by Rameau, directed and choreographed by Thomas Lebrun for the Académie de l’Opéra National in Paris.
