David Coria (Seville, Spain) is one of the most relevant artists in the flamenco avant-garde of the 21st century. His choreographic writing, creative aesthetics and socio-political commitment make him one of the most interesting Spanish choreographers of the moment. According to the renowned French dance journalist Rosita Boisseau, ‘the shadow of Antonio Gades and Pina Bausch hangs over his work, and he offers a formidable synthesis of advances in the art’.
In his dance and stage work, we can see the imprint of the great choreographers with whom he has worked over the course of his career, such as Antonio Gades, Pilar López, José Granero, Alberto Lorca and José Antonio, as well as the dance concepts developed during his career as a member of the companies of Rocío Molina, Eva Yerbabuena, Rafaela Carrasco and the Spanish National Ballet. All this led to his appointment as principal dancer, coach and choreographer of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía from 2013 to 2016.

His reputation has been consolidated by the critical and public success of his works. Anónimo won the Special Audience Award at the Jerez Festival in 2019, and ¡Fandango! a stage work premiered in January 2020 at Chaillot – and hosted in October 2021 at La Maison – won the Critics’ Award at the Jerez Festival in 2020, as well as the Giraldillo Award for Best Show at the Seville Flamenco Biennial in the same year. He has also received other awards, including ‘Best Dancer’ of the year from the German magazine Tanz and the Lorca Prize for best male dance performer from the Andalusian Theatre in 2016.
He currently runs his own artistic company, with a number of active shows on the international stage, as well as collaborating on works by other artists. In 2022, at Chaillot – Théâtre national de la danse, he premiered Imperfecto, which he created with contemporary artist Jann Gallois. He created Los Bailes Robados in July 2023 in Seville.
