Compagnie Labkine

Created in 1997 by Noëlle Simonet, the Labkine Company restages and transmits works from a repertoire, in particular that of modern American dance. It also provides pedagogical activities for children and for teachers and training courses for professionals. Noëlle Simonet and Jean-Marc Piquemal, the company’s co-directors, are Laban dancers and assessors (Laban notation).

Noëlle Simonet has danced, notably, for the Ballet Théâtre français of Nancy, the Ballet Théâtre contemporain of Angers and the Théâtre du Silence, where she performed pieces created by a myriad of highly-renowned choreographers. She has been teaching Laban notation at National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris (CNSMDP) since 1999.

Following studies in classical and contemporary dance and the beginning of a career in classical and neoclassical dance, Jean-Marc Piquemal joined the Fêtes Galantes Company, directed by Béatrice Massin, in 1997. He participated in several creations and re-workings of the baroque dance repertoire. Since 1998, he has been co-director of the Labkine Company and also works with the CNSMDP.

In November 2007 at the CND (National Centre for Dance), the Labkine Company restaged six major works from the New Dance Group repertoire and from choreographers who are closely linked to this movement.
