The Georges Momboye Dance Company, founded in 1992, consists of some 50 dancers and has a flourishing international career. For choreographer Georges Momboye, dance is, above all, a movement in constant evolution, which is fed by all influences, beginning with his own culture, but also by every experience, from Alvin Ailey to Martha Graham, by his encounters with artists coming from many different perspectives: African companies, contemporary companies, classical ballet and hip-hop, whom he gathers together for his creations. Georges Momboye’s choreographies exploit differences, they translate a great spirit of openness and respect for cultures, which gives them their force and originality. At the same time as fostering the evolution of African dance with modern movements, Georges Momboye brilliantly exploits the music which is an integral part of his choreography. Space is mastered and used in a disciplined fashion. A language accessible to all, which places his works at the heart of contemporary choreography.
