Artistic direction: Philippe Lafeuille

Creation: 1994

The Compagnie Chicos Mambo saw the light of day 20 years ago, in 1994 in Barcelona, following the meeting between the current director, Philippe Lafeuille, and two dancers: one Catalan and one Venezuelan. Their dance experience and sense of mockery gave rise to the prickly spirit of the company’s shows. The Chicos Mambo have achieved rapid success in Spain and France, following their first creation in 1994. Their shows are hailed by critics and the public and the troupe was been awarded the prize for “Compagnie – Révélation” in numerous competitions (Terradicim, Butaca, Sebastia Gasch). This astounding ascension has led them to appear on Spain’s TV3, for which they have performed over 200 original sketches.

But it was their show “Méli-Mélo”, created in 1998, which took them even further, to the international stage. First on tour in Spain, then in France and Italy, Méli-Mélo was then exported to Japan for a two-month tour.
The adventure continued with “Méli-Mélo II”, presented for the first time at the Festival d’Avignon OFF in 2006. The second instalment was awarded the prize for “Best International Show” at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh and then regularly toured Europe and North America until 2013. Today, the company “Chicos Mambo” is recognised around the world: from Paris to Japan, including Canada, Luxembourg, Scotland, The Netherlands and Italy.
