Cellule Hip-Hop
At Grenade, we train young dancers in a range of dance styles, including contemporary, classical and hip-hop.
Since Groupe Grenade was founded in 1991, we have always maintained a close connection with hip-hop. Hip-hop formed the backbone of our research for many years, before Grenade opened up to some forty leading French and international choreographers, including Hofesh Shechter, Wayne Mac Grégor, Crystal Pite, Jérome Bel, Ohad Naharin and many others… We have progressed in our technical skills, our quality and our contemporary choreographic material. A number of Grenada’s dancers have since joined prestigious companies in France and abroad (Rambert dance company, Cie Preljocaj, (LA)HORDE, La Batsheva, etc.).
Over the years, we have gradually left aside hip-hop, which was initially the basis of Groupe Grenade.
In 2018, when we created La Finale for the Suresnes Cités Danse festival, I rediscovered the same joy and enthusiasm for this rich, high-performance technique.
In constant evolution over the last few years, it breaks codes, mixing influences and ‘styles’ – contemporary, hip-hop or more distant forms.
In 2021, I’ve decided to put this technique and its evolution back at the heart of our research by developing the Grenada Hip Hop Unit.
