Marie-Françoise Bouchon
Marie-Françoise Bouchon studied at university where she graduated with a Degree in history and a DEA (Diploma of Advanced Studies) in aesthetics. She is a founding member of the European Association of Dance Historians. She is also a former soloist of Irina Grjebina’s Russian Ballets and of ancient dance performances. Moreover, she is a lecturer in theatrical dance history in the art-therapy department of the Schola Cantorum.
Author of “dance” texts for the “Russian Ballets” website for the National Centre of Pedagogical Documentation, as well as articles on various aspects of the history of dance, she also collaborates, in the field of dance, for Le Robert dictionaries and for the Dictionnaire de la musique en France de la Renaissance à la Révolution (Fayard 1992), the publications of the Cité de la Musique (Marsyas review and the “Histoires de bal” and “Histoires de corps” collections). She is scientific advisor and author for the Dictionnaire de la danse (Larousse-Bordas, 1999). Her research fields mainly cover the epistemology of the history of dance as well as questions on the body dancing and how theatrical dance was perceived throughout history. She has been teaching at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris (CNSMDP) since 1990.
Marie-Françoise Bouchon was scientific curator for the exhibition “Scènes de bal, bals en scène” presented at the National Centre for Dance in Pantin in 2011. She was also one of the authors of the catalogue for this exhibition.
